Weird & Wonderful

Whitby Folklore Tours

with Madame Peculiar

Whitby is a town like no other. Its rich history is littered with heroes and villains, smugglers and saints (and even a polar bear).

The folklore of Whitby is a rich seam of magical and mythical tales that beg to be told; from the macabre Hand of Glory to the ancient and bizarre ritual of the Penny Hedge. And who better to regale you with these fantastical fables than the mysterious Madame Peculiar.

Our folklore tour typically lasts 45 minutes, is accessible to all ages and begins at the Captain Cook monument on Whitby’s West Cliff (meet there at the required time) and ends at our very own folklore-themed cafe bar on Skinner Street.
